Abstract
The development of artificial intelligence has revolutionized the educational landscape by providing students with interactive platforms for writing enhancement. Nowadays, automated writing evaluation tools are largely used by students to evaluate their writing. However, in the Moroccan context, there is scant research about the effect of AI writing tools on university students' writing. This study, therefore, addresses the gap by conducting an experiment to investigate the impact of Grammarly on students' writing skills. Forty S2 master students participated in the study. The mixed-methods approach was used with a focus on a sequential explanatory strategy to profoundly answer the research questions. A five-point Likert scale questionnaire and a semi-structured interview were used to collect data. The findings confirm the significant impact Grammarly has on improving students’ writing. Therefore, the study recommends that teachers of higher education integrate AI in their teaching practices to make learners rely on themselves for evaluation.
