Abstract

This research evaluates the usage of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools by teachers in Albania based on their understanding of these technologies. The paper proposes various specific actions that can significantly improve professional development among teachers. This research employs quantitative research methods as well as descriptive-analytical research methods in evaluating the understanding of AI technologies by 141 teachers and their professional development needs that allow teachers to have a clear understanding of artificial intelligence technologies. According to this research, teachers develop their skills by means of effective training programs that consist of training workshops and access to AI technologies as well as peer mentoring. The analysis implies the need for professional counseling concerning the application of such AI tools that provide personalized feedback to learners. The research recommends organizations implement complete training programs and make policy changes and create AI literacy programs for dealing with ethical and legal issues which arise from AI system implementation. The approach supports educational institutions through efficient AI implementation which results in contemporary teaching methods being adopted by educational leaders and their partners. Systematic integration of AI across various disciplines is recommended to foster collaboration with generative AI tools, creating this way an AI-friendly environment that supports curricular changes and deepens understanding of AI in educational institutions and among teachers.
